Community Spotlight: Suffolk County Black Nurses Association at the Amityville Street Fair
On July 3, 2025, the Suffolk County Black Nurses Association proudly participated as a vendor at the vibrant Amityville Street Fair, and what a day it was!
Our Educational Committee showed up with heart and purpose, offering giveaways, interactive games, and educational materials for all ages.
For our younger visitors, we sparked conversations around internet safety, shared fun coloring pages, and played engaging games that made learning feel like play.
For adults, we emphasized the importance of annual physicals, routine check-ups, and staying proactive about their health. Our team was on hand to answer questions and share resources to support lifelong wellness.
The energy was uplifting, the conversations meaningful, and as the day drew to a close, a beautiful rainbow graced the sky, symbolizing hope, unity, and the power of
community.

Suffolk County Black Nurses Association at the Premiere of Behind the Joy
We were honored to stand alongside filmmaker Jamal Smart at the powerful premiere of “Behind the Joy,” a film that courageously unveils the hidden realities of postpartum life, where love and exhaustion collide, stigma silences pain, and the strength to seek help becomes the first step toward healing and joy.
Through this collaboration, SCBNA continues our mission to empower our community through education and care, advocating for equity in Maternal Health and Wellness.
Let’s keep the conversation going. Let’s keep showing up. Let’s keep making change.

World Sexual Health Day 2025
SCBNA joins the global movement to advance sexual health and justice for all. This year’s theme - Sexual Justice: What Can We Do? calls us to action.
Sexual justice means every person has the power and resources to make free, informed decisions about their bodies, sexuality, and reproduction. It means equal access to education, care, and dignity without discrimination, violence, or exclusion.
This year, we uplift four key focus areas:
• Sexual Rights: Health, pleasure, and freedom from stigma.
• Sexual & Reproductive Rights: Bodily autonomy and choice.
• LGBTQ+ Adolescents: Affirming identity and protecting dignity.
• Access to Information: Uncensored, evidence-based education.
At SCBNA, we believe sexual health is human health. Let’s build a world where justice leads the way.

World Alzheimer’s Day: Honoring Memory, Supporting Families
Suffolk County Black Nurses Association joins the global call to raise awareness and compassion for those affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Alzheimer’s disease touches millions of lives; patients, caregivers and entire families.
Every 65 seconds, someone develops Alzheimer’s. It is the sixth-leading cause of death in the U.S. and the only one among the top ten that cannot be prevented, cured or slowed. As lifespans increase and more families face this challenge, support for research and care is more critical than ever.
If you or someone you love needs help or information, contact the Alzheimer’s Association 24/7 Helpline at 1-800-272-3900. You can also speak with your local doctor for guidance and support.
Together, we honor memory with care and dignity.
